The cotton thread and loom are a part of me, like having another limb.

syria’s last TEXTILE WEAVING WORKSHOP

Abdullah’s weaving workshop is a family business that has existed for three generations in Hama, Syria, specializing in the ancient art of cotton towel and textile weaving dating back to 1853. When the workshop opened, there were about 600 of its kind, but today, Abdullah and his family run the only workshop left in Syria dedicated entirely to the traditional craft of hand-woven towels. Abdullah’s family business is made up of 11 siblings, with 3 sons running the shop and doing most of the work on the large wooden looms using organic cotton, and 4 women specializing in the signature handmade trim finish.
