“Every product we make carries a story,” says Kinda Hibrawi, who cofounded Mint + Laurel with another Syrian American, Rama Chakaki. “What is more, the logistics of getting goods from Syria to Los Angeles is complex, to say the least.” Unlike many international companies, Mint + Laurel does not ask its artisan partners to work on commission. Rather, the company buys the products from the artisans and pays them immediately.
WHY THE NAMe mint+laurel?
Mint evokes “fresh and uplifting” and Laurel represents “clean.” Thanks to its natural composition, the laurel berry oil in our soap is known to be an effective natural cleanser, antimicrobial, anti-itching agent. Olive oil, black seed oil and laurel berry oil are the main ingredients in our plant based soap bars. Our hope is you feel fresh, uplifted, and clean with every Mint + Laurel purchase.

SOCIAL IMPACT
Hassen has been in the laurel soap business since 1984, and has persevered despite the lack of resources due to the war in Syria. Connecting his artisanal soaps to a global market helps strengthen the local farming community and contribute to Syria’s economic development. Upon arrival to our warehouse in LA, the soaps are individually packaged by hand and distributed across the U.S. Each soap purchase supports the advancement of artisan entrepreneurs, both in the U.S. and the Middle East.
