BOLD JOURNEY
“The three qualities I try to focus on; curiosity, perseverance and collaboration. Asking questions often is the best way to learn, it keeps me on a path of growth. Perseverance goes hand in hand when starting any business, because there will be days where you are bound to feel like a failure, the only way to succeed is to rise above this and keep going. Collaboration is one of my favorites, because I get to work with amazing people and it keeps things interesting!.”
FORBES
“In response to this upheaval (in Syria) comes the social enterprise Mint+Laurel. The LA-based company sources from Syria its handmade, organic and environmentally-friendly products. Every product we make carries a story,” says Kinda Hibrawi, who cofounded Mint+Laurel with another Syrian American, Rama Chakaki. “What is more, the logistics of getting goods from Syria to Los Angeles is complex, to say the least. Through Arabic Whatsapp messages and voice notes, Mint+Laurel communicates with Syrian artisans based in Aleppo, Hama and Damascus.”

“When Kinda Hibrawi ’96 catches the scent of laurel bay leaf soap, she’s transported to her hometown, Aleppo, Syria. “The fresh, clean scent reminds me of my grandmother,” she says. To support the continuation of that ancient soap-making tradition, Hibrawi co-founded Mint + Laurel, which imports artisan-crafted, vegan, organic soaps made with traditional Syrian ingredients and essential oils.
