“Every product we make carries a story,” says Kinda Hibrawi, who cofounded Mint + Laurel with another Syrian American, Rama Chakaki. “What is more, the logistics of getting goods from Syria to Los Angeles is complex, to say the least.” Unlike many international companies, Mint + Laurel does not ask its artisan partners to work on commission. Rather, the company buys the products from the artisans and pays them immediately.

WHY THE NAMe mint+laurel?

Mint evokes “fresh and uplifting” and Laurel represents “clean.” Thanks to its natural composition, the laurel berry oil in our soap is known to be an effective natural cleanser, antimicrobial, anti-itching agent. Olive oil, black seed oil and laurel berry oil are the main ingredients in our plant based soap bars. Our hope is you feel fresh, uplifted, and clean with every Mint + Laurel purchase.

TESTIMONIALS

“I’m very happy I purchased these soaps. This cleared up my 10 month old baby’s cradle cap the first use. I use it as a shampoo (I have curly/oily hair) and now I only need to wash every three or four days. I also use it as soap for quick showers every day and don’t get dried out. My 8yr old loves the smell and doesn’t make a mess like with liquid shampoo/body wash. Thank you so much for these soaps!”
STACEY P., GREENVILLE, WI.

“I just got the package today, and want to say I think it's awesome you make it possible to have a small connection to our home and Syrian culture with these authentic products!”
WESAM J., NEW YORK, NY.

“Just received a bunch of Mint + Laurel goodies and even though I might sound like a broken record, I would like to thank you ALL for the amazing work you are doing. I keep being at awe at the high quality of the products and how you put so much love and effort for each item I received. I bought a bunch of birthday/souvenir gifts for my family in France & in Algeria (and well, for myself) and I am certain they will fall in love with Mint + Laurel like I did.”

RIM-SARAH A., VIENNA, VA.

“Mint + Laurel's mission is beautifully reflected in each of their products. Every soap, carefully constructed and thoughtfully packaged, holds its own set of memories and stories, both for members of the Arab Diaspora and those experiencing Syrian soaps for the first time. Each scent is a transcendent invitation to experience, explore, and to share.”

AHMED B., HOUSTON, TX.

“I’m very happy to have discovered your shop…My grandparents came to America from Syria in 1913. I treasure my heritage and am grateful to support the people of Syria in any way I can. Thank you for providing this opportunity.”
JANICE B., MANHATTAN BEACH, CA.

“I love Mint + Laurel soaps. The quality is amazing. I ordered some for my mother, daughter and myself. From now on, it is all we will use on our body. The Damask Jasmine is my favorite scent. I love that you can smell the Jasmine in my entire bathroom after every shower.”
MAYSOON B., LOS ANGELES, CA.

“I stand behind Mint + Laurel for its work on supporting local projects in the US and responding to social issues like Black Lives Matter. It not only supports artisans in Syria but drives social change locally in the US, connecting the two countries in a relevant way.”
GAIL V., HOBOKEN, NJ.

“I highly recommend a Mint + Laurel product, as a treat to yourself, or for someone you care about. It's the first thing I think of when I want to give someone I love a gift. And the fact that it supports artisans in Syria makes it all the more special and thoughtful.”
REEM A., WASHINGTON D.C.

“I bought the Aleppo Soap Gift Box for my girlfriend, not only because she obsesses over great soap and design, but also because of the rich history and social impact of Mint + Laurel. We enjoyed the experience of unwrapping the beautifully crafted soap, which also comes with a story card about the art of soap making in Aleppo, Syria. This is such a great gift that is truly more than a bar of soap. We will definitely be coming back for more!”
BRIAN C., BALTIMORE, MD

“These are the kind of projects that are worth investing in. The products look absolutely incredible and somewhat remind me of the Syria I once dreamed and continue to dream of - authentic, creative and free.”
CHARIF, LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

“My friend loves the soap and the organization it supports. She said it smells of “earthy goodness”. Thanks again! I’ll definitely buy again for other little gifts to send to folks back home. Cheers!”
SIOBHAN H., PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC

“I ordered Mint + Laurel soaps the first time last year and now I’m a repeat customer. The smell reminded me of my summers in Damascus as a child. I was born and raised in the US but we would always spend our summers in Syria. Thank you for offering these Syrian treasures to this side of the world!”
